Veicon Technology's Low Maintenance V-Link™ Public Internet Terminals Installed at Public Libraries in Oregon

Veicon's library program also includes school learning centers, school libraries and college campuses

Beaverton, OR - Veicon Technology, Inc., announces successful installations and user acceptance of its V-Link™ public Internet terminals at the following public libraries in Oregon: the Hillsboro Public Library, Tanasbourne Branch; the Hillsboro Public Library, Shute Park Branch; and the Cedar Mill Community Library. The V-Link public Internet terminals provide these libraries with low-maintenance, trouble-free public Internet access points where library patrons can check their own email accounts and access the Internet.

"Veicon's V-Link Internet terminal is a maintenance free machine that connects to a server outside of the library. The unit was originally designed for placement in hotels, airports, hospitals and other places where people may need access to the Internet and E-Mail. Unlike the library's other Internet stations, users can access their own AOL, Compuserve, and Internet e-mail accounts. Since there is no PC to maintain, troubleshooting usually consists of turning the power off and on," said Peter Leonard, Library Director at Cedar Mill Community Library.

"We are very pleased with our three V-Link terminals. So are our patrons. The terminals are so easy to use that our staff seldom gets questions about them. Our City Information Services department likes the V-Link terminals -- they don't have to touch them," said Mike Smith, Head of Technical Services at the Hillsboro Public Libraries.

"We are extremely happy to work with these public libraries, as their patrons are making very good uses of the V-Link Internet terminals," stated Dr. Chong Lee, executive vice president of Veicon Technology. "The terminals are being used quite heavily, and we have received very positive user feedback from these libraries. Since the V-Link terminals are based on thin-client devices, with no moving parts, systems have been available for the library patrons most of the time, with very little down time. With these installations and valuable user feedback from the users, we have proven our patented V-Link concept in the areas of file system protection, remote administration and security. By incorporating user feedback from these libraries, we have enhanced the V-Link software and released Version 2.0 V-Link in January, 2000."

Based on these successful installations of the V-Link terminals, Veicon Technology is now offering the V-Link Internet service to other public libraries in Oregon and Washington.

Veicon Technology plans to exhibit the V-Link product at the ALA (American Library Association) Exhibition in July 2000. Veicon Technology also plans to expand the program to school learning centers, school libraries, college campuses and libraries, and corporate libraries. Veicon plans to continue expanding its commercial customer base including hotels, convention centers, hospitals and airports, as well as corporate public areas such as cafeterias and visitor centers.

"We are now ready to offer our innovative V-Link Internet access service, to all libraries in U.S. and Canada, and we are in the process of putting together a national marketing and advertising program. Within six months, we will start expanding to the international markets. We are in the process of developing a plan to deploy in excess of 10,000 V-Link public Internet terminals within next 24 months," added Dr. Lee.
